What a magnificent woman and what a revolutionary idea. Wouldn't it be wonderful if we had something as simple as "if you want the truth, ask for the pink paper"? Subtlety was apparently lost on the bigots of their day. Thanks for being the "pink paper" lady for us in this nation so saddled by racism and all its paraphernalia.
They would get someone who was literate to help them. However, if they couldn't even buy the right paper, they would have no access to the information at all. During this period, many Black people were illiterate, but they were quickly learning. This is indicative of a key part of that process.
