Black cultural performers have long been resistant to "outside" (i.e. white) criticism of their work, so they turn up the level of "Blackness" in it specifically to antagonize white consumers- the white consumers are antagonized, but often have no idea that they are being "played"...
It's not the "culture" they object to. It's the number of potential voter dollars they may lose in the process.
Here's how it sorta kinda works: "They" know in a week, (maybe a month), whatever the temporary distraction was, will blow over. In fact, it's been proven time and again.
How often is the Super Bowl. Once every year right?
Well, not everyone watched nor participated in the Super Bowl. Those outliers (for lack of a better term ) were few.
Interim? "They" were still working to milk dollars from the Super Bowl fans, even local states picked up some of the bounty.
So tell me again, why should Black "culture" affect "them"?🤔🫤
Thank you for always helping us see ourselves and others in the mirror. It is also interesting that not only are some European-Americans anti-Black culture when it doesn't serve them, but Descendants of Slavery who also suffer from post-traumatic slavery ssyndromeare denouncing Kendrick Lamar's Super Bowl 59 performance. Either the brilliant content went over their heads, or they want to lessen the discomfort of European nationalists. I am so happy to witness the histotical significance of this awakening so I re-watch it on YouTube.
Great piece. You always report the Who, Why, What, When, Where, and How.
And Gill Scott Heron in 1971 when I was twenty. You know your history.
Have you ever thought about teaching journalism?
